CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — After a two-game road trip to open the new year, the Tar Heels men’s basketball team is back home — and they’ll welcome back one of their key players from injury.
North Carolina (9-6 overall, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) will host SMU (11-3, 2-1) Tuesday night in Chapel Hill. The two teams are set to tip off at 9 p.m. at the Smith Center.
Junior guard Seth Trimble is expected to be back in the lineup for the Tar Heels after missing the last three games due to an upper body injury. UNC survived their last game at Notre Dame thanks to a four-point play by guard Elliot Cadeau at the end of the second half, ultimately winning the game 74-73. Ian Jackson scored 27 to lead the team in points for the fourth game in a row.
The Mustangs, one of the three new ACC teams this season, are coming off a 27-point loss to No. 4 Duke in Durham on Saturday. Boopie Miller, who played at Wake Forest last season, scored 21 points for SMU in a losing effort.
Up next, the Tar Heels will make the short trip to Raleigh to face NC State at the Lenovo Center on Saturday afternoon.
