SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNCN) — North Carolina men’s basketball is looking to salvage a win from their two-game road trip to open up 2025.
The Tar Heels (8-6 overall, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-6, 1-1) Saturday afternoon. Tipoff at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center in cold and snowy South Bend is set for noon.
UNC is coming off an 83-70 loss at Louisville on New Year’s Day. Freshman Ian Jackson, making his second start in place of the injured Seth Trimble, led the team with 23 points. But the Tar Heels’ struggled on both sides of the ball, with Elliot Cadeau, Drake Powell and Cade Tyson all fouling out of the contest after scoring just a combined 21 points.
The Irish are also coming off an ACC loss after dropping their last game to Georgia Tech on New Year’s Eve by a score of 86-75. Junior Tae Davis led Notre Dame in a losing effort that night with 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
After Saturday’s game, the Tar Heels head back home and don’t play a game outside the state of North Carolina until the last week of January. Their next matchup is against SMU Tuesday night at the Smith Center.
