CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — The Tar Heels men’s basketball team eked out a victory against rival NC State in Raleigh Saturday afternoon and are looking to keep their three-game win streak going.
North Carolina (11-6 overall, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) hosts Cal (8-8, 1-4) Wednesday night. Tipoff at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill is set for 7 p.m.
UNC edged past the Wolfpack 63-61 Saturday, with the game coming down to the last few seconds. Jalen Washington’s dunk with 24 seconds left broke a 61-all tie, then his block of Jayden Taylor’s layup sealed the win. Ian Jackson led the Tar Heels with 21 points in the game.
ACC newcomer Cal is playing in Chapel Hill for the third time in program history. The Bears enter Wednesday’s contest having lost three of their last four contests, with the most recent one a 71-68 defeat to Virginia Tech on Saturday in Berkeley. Andrej Stojakovic, son of former NBA player Peja Stojakovic, led Cal with 24 points in the loss.
The Tar Heels stay home for their next game and host another new ACC team, Stanford, on Saturday afternoon.
