CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WNCN) — It’s been an emotional last couple of weeks for the North Carolina football team.
The last time they took the field, in Chapel Hill on Oct. 5, they played in a game honoring cancer patients such as teammate Tylee Craft. During that game — a 41-34 loss to Georgia Tech, Craft passed away. The players were told after they left the field, and then had some time to both grieve and celebrate their friend and teammate.
Now, they’ve come out of their bye and are looking to scrape out bowl eligibility this season. The Tar Heels (3-4 overall, 0-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) will face Virginia (4-3, 2-2) Saturday afternoon to try to get back to .500. Kick off at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville is set for noon.
UNC has yet to win an ACC game and is currently on a four-game losing skid that started with the 70-50 loss to James Madison on Sept. 21. Their last win was against N.C. Central on Sept. 14 in Chapel Hill.
The Cavaliers are coming off a 48-31 loss at Clemson last week and lost to Louisville the week before that. Their two conference wins so far have come against Wake Forest and Boston College.
Next week, the Tar Heels travel to Tallahassee to take on the 1-6 Florida State Seminoles. They then return home the following week to face Wake Forest.
