CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — After squeaking out a win at Minnesota last week, the North Carolina Tar Heels are back home at Kenan Stadium for the first time this season.
UNC (1-0) hosts the Charlotte 49ers (0-1) in Chapel Hill Saturday afternoon. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m.
Conner Harrell is the Tar Heels’ new starting quarterback after Max Johnson suffered a season-ending leg injury in Minneapolis. UNC was dealt another blow shortly before Saturday’s game kicked off, when the team announced defensive end Kaimon Rucker would be out for a few weeks due to injury.
But the Tar Heels are still heavy favorites against Charlotte, who lost to James Madison in their season opener last week.
This is the first of six games in a row that UNC will play in the state of North Carolina, with three home games in a row followed by a trip up Tobacco Road to face Duke, then back to Kenan Stadium for two more contests.
