BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WNCN) — Duke and North Carolina will meet in women’s basketball for the third time this season, but this time, a lot more is on the line.
The No. 2 Blue Devils (28-7) and No. 3 Tar Heels (29-7) will clash in the Sweet 16 round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Tipoff at Legacy Arena at BJCC in Birmingham, Ala. is set for 2:30 p.m.
The rivals have split their first two games, with UNC winning 53-46 in overtime in Chapel Hill on Jan. 9 and Duke winning 68-53 in Durham on Feb. 27.
En route to the Sweet 16, the Blue Devils routed No. 15 Lehigh 86-25 in their first round game, then outlasted No. 10 Oregon 59-53 in their second round game. Ashlon Jackson was Duke’s leading scorer in that victory, notching 20 points.
UNC had to defeat No. 14 Oregon State and No. 6 West Virginia to earn a date with Duke in the Sweet 16. In the 58-47 win over the Mountaineers in the second round of the tournament, Alyssa Ustby led the Tar Heels with 21 points and seven rebounds.
The winner of this game will move on to play in the Elite 8 on Sunday.
