CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — With their consistent play throughout the season, North Carolina women’s basketball earned the right to host 2025 NCAA Tournament games in Chapel Hill, and their campaign begins Saturday.
The No. 3 Tar Heels (27-7) face the No. 14 Oregon State Beavers (19-15) in a first round game in Birmingham Regional 2. Tipoff at Carmichael Arena is set for 4:30 p.m.
UNC last played on March 8, when they lost in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament semifinal round to rival NC State. In that 66-55 loss, Indya Nivar led the Tar Heels with 13 points. Maria Gakdeng supplied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Oregon State won the West Coast Conference Tournament final to earn their spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers, led by Catarina Ferreira’s 16 points and 12 rebounds, defeated the Portland Pilots 59-46 to win the championship.
The winner of Saturday’s game will move on to play in the second round on Monday.
