CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina women’s basketball team is one win away from the Sweet 16 — and another date with Duke.
The No. 3 Tar Heels (28-7) and No. 6 West Virginia (25-7) face off in a second round game in the Birmingham Regional 2 bracket of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill.
UNC easily won its first round game Saturday against No. 14 Oregon State, defeating the Beavers 70-49. Lexi Donarski led all scorers with 19 points, while Maria Gakdeng added 13 points and five rebounds in the win.
The Mountaineers also won their first round game by double digits. West Virginia topped No. 11 Columbia 78-59 in Chapel Hill Saturday. JJ Quinerly scored 27 points and dished out seven assists to lead the Mountaineers, and Jordan Harrison also contributed 23 points and six assists.
The winner of Monday night’s game will move on to play No. 2 Duke in the Sweet 16 in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday.
