GREENSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — After beating Boston College Thursday in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, North Carolina women’s basketball has a more difficult challenge in their next game — trying to keep the highest scorer in the country in check.
The No, 14 Tar Heels (26-6, 13-5) face Ta’Niya Latson and the No. 22 Florida State Seminoles Friday. Tipoff in Greensboro is set for 11 a.m.
Fifth-seeded UNC defeated Boston College 78-71 to move on to face FSU. In that game, Lexi Donarski led all scorers with 20 points, while Indya Nivar chipped in 14 points and Alyssa Ustby and Lanie Grant had 11 apiece.
The fourth-seeded Seminoles had a double-bye and have yet to play an ACC Tournament game. Junior guard Latson is averaging 25.4 points per game this season, leading all Division I women’s players. But in FSU’s last regular-season game — a 71-57 loss at home to Duke on Sunday — Latson only scored nine points, while Makayla Timpson led the Seminoles with 25 points in the defeat.
The winner of this game goes on to play in the tournament semifinals at noon on Saturday.
