GREENSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — After earning a first round bye, North Carolina women’s basketball kicks off its Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Thursday.
The No. 14 Tar Heels (25-6 overall, 13-5 ACC), the fifth seed in the tournament, face the Boston College Eagles (16-16, 6-12), the 12th seed. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
UNC finished fourth in the ACC standings, but ended the regular season on a two-game losing streak, dropping them down six spots in the AP Top 25 rankings. The Tar Heels most recently lost to Virginia 78-75 at home on Sunday. Maria Gakdeng led all scorers with 25 points in that game.
Boston College finished 12th in the ACC and had to play a first round game Wednesday. The Eagles edged out the Syracuse Orange 76-73 to earn a date with UNC. In that win, Dontavia Waggoner scored a game-high 32 points and also pulled down nine rebounds to lead Boston College, while Teya Sidberry had a double-double with 24 points and 17 boards.
The winner of this game will go on to play fourth-seeded #22 Florida State Friday morning at 11 a.m.
