CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — There’s a big showdown in Chapel Hill Sunday afternoon between two teams that are not only longtime rivals, but are currently battling to move up in both the Atlantic Coast Conference standings and national rankings.
The No. 12 North Carolina Tar Heels (22-4 overall, 10-3 ACC) host the No. 10 NC State Wolfpack (20-4, 12-1) Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Carmichael Arena.
Since losing to Florida State on Jan. 26, UNC has won its last four games, including most recently against Virginia Tech on Thursday night. In that 67-62 win, Reniya Kelly led the Tar Heels with 20 points. Lexi Donarski also scored 15.
The Wolfpack has won its last nine games, several by double-digit margins. On Thursday, though, they barely got past Miami 76-74. In that game at Reynolds Coliseum, Zoe Brooks scored the winning basket with under a minute left. She finished with eight points, while Madison Hayes led NC State with 19 points and seven rebounds.
The Tar Heels next travel to Syracuse to play the Orange on Thursday night. The Wolfpack will head to Atlanta for their next game, where they’ll face Georgia Tech on Thursday.
