MILWAUKEE (WNCN) — After soundly defeating San Diego State Tuesday night in their First Four play-in game on Tuesday night, the North Carolina Tar Heels earned a spot in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
No. 11 UNC (23-12) faces No. 6 Ole Miss (22-11) in a South Region game Friday afternoon. Tipoff at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee is set for 4:05 p.m.
After controversially being selected to the NCAA Tournament — albeit as the last team in — the Tar Heels proved their worthiness with a 95-68 defeat of the San Diego State Aztecs to earn the matchup with Ole Miss. In that play-in game, RJ Davis scored 26 points.
The Rebels, who finished sixths in the Southeastern Conference standings, are coming off a 62-57 loss to Auburn in the quarterfinal round of the SEC Tournament. Sean Pedulla and Dre Davis scored 12 points apiece to lead Ole Miss in that loss.
The winner of this game will advance to play Iowa State, who earlier Friday beat Lipscomb 82-55, in the second round of the tournament on Sunday.
