CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) — For the second day in a row, a Tar Heels basketball team is playing a Spartans basketball team.
After the North Carolina women won their game Friday, it’s the men’s turn Saturday to try to take down a Michigan State team.
No. 1 UNC (28-7) and No. 9 Michigan State (20-14) play in a West regional second round game at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The game will be broadcast right here on CBS 17, with tip off pushed back to 5:45 p.m. due to the preceding games.
The matchup will be the 17th one overall between the two storied basketball programs. North Carolina leads the all-time series 12-4, a record that includes a perfect 5-0 record against the Spartans in the NCAA Tournament.
UNC and Michigan State last met in the postseason in the 2009 national championship game in Detroit. North Carolina won the game — and the NCAA title — with an 89-72 victory.
