LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WNCN) — The North Carolina men’s basketball team is starting 2025 by returning to Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The Tar Heels (8-5 overall, 1-0 ACC) will play Louisville (8-5, 1-1) on Wednesday night. Tipoff at the KFC Yum! Center is set for 6 p.m.
UNC is currently on a two-game winning streak that started with a narrow win over then-No. 18 UCLA at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 21 — the Tar Heels’ first win over a ranked opponent so far this season. Their last victory was a 97-81 rout over Campbell on Sunday night at the Smith Center.
But they’re expected to again be without guard Seth Trimble against the Cardinals. The standout junior missed the Campbell game due to an upper body injury, and freshman Ian Jackson started in his place.
The Cardinals have also won their last two games. Their last loss was at then-No. 5 Kentucky on Dec. 14. Since then, they’ve scored victories at Florida State and against Eastern Kentucky. Louisville has five players averaging double digits in scoring, led by Wisconsin transfer Chucky Hepburn.
The Tar Heels will stay on the road for their next game, playing at Notre Dame Saturday afternoon before returning home to Chapel Hill
