MINNEAPOLIS (WNCN) — After a stormy afternoon in Minneapolis, the North Carolina Tar Heels are ready to start their football season.
Thursday night’s nationally-televised game at Huntington Bank Stadium was originally slated to start at 8 p.m. ET, but a line of storms that moved in late in the afternoon forced kick off back an hour to 9 p.m. ET.
Carolina fans are hoping to find out who the Tar Heels’ new signal caller will be following Drake Maye’s departure to the NFL. Last week, head coach Mack Brown said UNC would be using two quarterbacks against Minnesota, with both transfer Max Johnson and Conner Harrell, Maye’s backup last season, getting snaps. Johnson will start the game.
Minnesota also has a new quarterback in Max Brosmer, who transferred from New Hampshire in the FCS. But the Golden Gophers will be without an major offensive weapon, as they announced shortly before the game that running back Darius Taylor, their leading rusher last season, would not be available to play due to injury.
The game is the back half of a home-and-home set between the two teams. Last season, the Tar Heels won the matchup in Chapel Hill by a score of 31-13.
