BERKELEY, Calif. (WNCN) — The North Carolina women’s basketball team will get a little taste of the old “Pac-12 after dark” experience as they try to bounce back from a two-point loss, but they’ll have to do it against on the home court of a fellow Top 25 team on the other side of the country.
The No. 15 Tar Heels (18-4 overall, 6-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) visit the No. 19 California Golden Bears (18-3, 6-2) for the first time as conference mates. Tipoff at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley is set for 10 p.m. Eastern time.
UNC lost narrowly at home, 86-84, to Ta’Niya Latson — the leading scorer in the country — and Florida State on Sunday afternoon to snap their five-game winning streak. The Tar Heels were led by Maria Gakdeng, who scored 21 points in the loss. Reniya Kelly also contributed 16 points and six rebounds.
Cal is coming off a 75-72 win at cross-bay rival Stanford a week ago. In that game, Kayla Williams and Ionna Krimili led the Bears with 18 points and 17 points, respectively. Marta Suarez also chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds against the Cardinal.
The Tar Heels stay in the Bay Area for their next game, a Sunday afternoon tilt at Stanford.
