New NCAA rules allow additional preseason games
“The new rules would allow schools to play “up to” two intrasquad scrimmages at an off-campus location. Schools could also play two exhibition games against NCAA-affiliated schools, including Division I. According to the report, it would be permissible to publicize the scrimmages and exhibitions and sell tickets.”
The Wolfpack, quite wisely, is going to take advantage of the new NCAA rules and will play an open scrimmage with UNC-W in Wilmington at Trask Coliseum on October 11.
First reported by Pack Pride, admission will be charged and proceeds will benefit NIL for both teams. Details on the revenue split were not included in the announcement.
The staff is currently finalizing the schedule and has historically published the non-conference portion by the end of August so we should see it soon. The new rules allow a second intersquad scrimmage as well as two exhibition games. Normally foreign trips are 3-4 games (plus they get those 10 extra practices), so this is a great benefit to help all the new faces on this season’s team learn to play together. I would expect the staff to use all of these opportunities.
Details to follow on how to get tickets.
