NC State has plenty of starting pitching to replace in 2025, what with Logan Whitaker and Sam Highfill out of eligibility, plus the potential for Dominic Fritton to stay in the 2024 MLB Draft. (I’m going to assume Fritton is gone until shown otherwise.)
The Wolfpack addressed some of that need through the portal this week, with a commitment from UNCG rising junior Julien Peissel. He started 14 games in 2024 for the Spartans and should be expected to fill a weekend starting role for the Pack.
Peissel showed encouraging progress as a sophomore, going from 29 strikeouts in 54 innings in 2023 to 64 punchouts in 74-2/3rds IP this past season. He posted a 2:1 K:BB ratio with an ERA of 4.70.
He made starts against both Wake Forest and NC State, and limited the Deacs to a run on two hits over five innings. He went 4-2/3rds against State, giving up three runs. The Spartans won both of those games.
