The league’s revenue keeps on growing, not that this will do anything to halt its existential crisis.
The tax data for the ACC’s 2023 fiscal year was released this week, showing a 14.5% increase in revenue over the previous year, to over $700 million. The league added about $38 million in television revenue, aided by increased distribution of the ACC Network.
The average per-school payout was $44.8 million, which ranks third among power conferences, but is of course still well behind the Big Ten ($60.5 million per) and SEC ($51.3 million). The Big 12 is fourth at $44.2 million.
A school can do a lot with $45 million, I reckon, but the important thing in college sports is to focus on what a school could do with just a little bit more. It doesn’t really feel like everybody should be in a hurry to burn this thing down, but as FSU and Clemson continue publicly trying to jimmy the lock off the Grant of Rights by hurling lawyers at it, I suppose we’re stuck on this course.
A shame, but we’ll at least be able to afford an extremely fancy in-memoriam celebration.
