There’s an odd development out of Chapel Hill this week—the UNC-CH Board of Trustees seems to have some confusion about how athletics department budgets work and is going to perform an audit of the Heels’ books.
The timing and criticism of Tar Heels AD Bubba Cunningham is interesting given that he’s down in Florida for the ACC’s spring meetings.
Amid all this, we have these remarks from trustee Dave Boliek:
Boliek said he wants UNC to join a higher-revenue league.
“I am advocating for that,” he said. “That’s what we need to do. We need to do everything we can to get there. Or the alternative is the ACC is going to have to reconstruct itself. I think all options are on the table.”
Does a public statement like this mark a change in disposition for UNC, which has maintained a low profile relative to FSU and Clemson? That’s possible, though the main impression from that WRAL article I get is one of disorganization. I don’t think we should expect UNC to be filing suit in court against the ACC anytime soon.
