The mood in the dungeon is improving, as all the giant candles are no longer necessary, though some issues remain. We had to borrow some knaves from upstairs to push the giant wooden wheel that keeps the water running around here, and the normally crisp breeze circulated by the screams from the Howling Room has lost some of its bite.
Last week was a 5-1 effort, and that certainly cannot last, so let’s get on with it.
NC State is a three-point dog at home against Syracuse and, unfortunately, I have felt compelled to take the Orange. Maybe this is just the kick in the pants that State needs! (Actually took Cuse earlier in the week when the line was four points, but alas.)
Obligatory Bet Against UNC Of The Week
Y’know, I really thought I was in for a smiting over this bit, but the Tar Heels simply refuse to stop cooperating. This week, they are a four-point home underdog to Georgia Tech. I’ll take the Jackets to push the Mack Brown Retire-O-Meter one more notch closer to Adios!. This is maybe the easiest one of these picks so far, which means UNC’s probably gonna cover, huh.
Around The Country
Memphis -7 at USF: South Florida has not been competitive against anybody with a pulse this season, so let’s bet on that continuing.
Clemson at Wake Forest, under 61.5: Really can’t wait to see how bad Wake Forest looks this week! Should make us all feel fantastic. Anyway, I expect Dabo’s lads will get out early and keep the matter under control, melting down a comfortable road win in the second half. No need to get spicy on the road, is there, Dabo?
Cal at Pitt -3: Are Cal and Pitt really on equal terms on a neutral field, as this line suggests? Sure doesn’t feel that way to me. Cal’s performance last week really wasn’t as good as the score made it appear, (though the Bears still should have figured out a way to hold off Miami), and it’s almost like the Bears continue getting extra credit for beating Auburn.
San Jose State +1 at Colorado State: Heading west to dabble in mid-major land to put a few bucks on an SJSU team that has a decided advantage at quarterback. If it’s really a coin-flip game, then give me the team with the better QB.
Ohio State -3 at Oregon: It’s going to be one hell of an atmosphere in Eugene, especially under the lights, but I’m skeptical that the Ducks are ready for prime time. I also think that, unfortunately, OSU is the best team in the country.
