Senior defensive end Red Hibbler isn’t listed on NC State’s roster anymore, as Inside Pack Sports first reported this afternoon. If Hibbler wants to move on and preserve his final year of eligibility by redshirting, he cannot appear in any more games this season, so maybe that’s the explanation here.
Hibbler played in the first four games as a reserve, and prior to the Clemson game had logged a total of 78 snaps. I don’t have participation numbers for this past weekend, but he didn’t record a tackle against the Tigers. He has six tackles this season—none for a loss—and one quarterback hurry. This after leading the Pack with 6.5 sacks last fall.
It’s disappointing to see him go but if he’s frustrated with his role, well, it’s not like that situation was about to change overnight. Hurts to lose a rotation player at this point, though, given how badly the defense has struggled.
