Questionable play calling, shaky QB play result in defeat to Duke
NC State’s offense surrendered five points on their first two possessions of the game, setting the tone of struggles that would maintain throughout a 29-19 loss to Duke. The loss marks the fourth time the Wolfpack has lost over their last five matchups with the Blue Devils.
The Pack’s offense settled for five field goal attempts with one of those missing. The defense kept State in it during that time, but failing to convert those opportunities into touchdowns ultimately doomed the team in this one.
State’s rushing game was almost non-existent and C.J. Bailey had arguably his worst collegiate performance, consistently missing on passes in a 16-of-39 performance for 184 yards and an interception, adding a late touchdown pass. The play calling did Bailey no favors, though.
All in all it was a crappy game from start to finish. The Pack will need to win one of their last two games – road trips to Georgia Tech and North Carolina – to reach bowl eligibility in a disappointing season in Raleigh.
