An 0-4 week on the diamond took the shine off the early season
A late Tuesday collapse to Liberty, followed by a trio of fairly uncompetitive weekend losses in Jacksonville, Florida, resulted in NC State dropping from 12th in the country to entirely out of the Top 25 baseball rankings this week.
The Wolfpack showed many flaws in getting outscored by a combined 22-6 against Ohio State, Alabama, and Coastal Carolina at the 2025 Jax Classic. NC State pitchers issued 12 walks and hit 3 batters over 25 innings while the defense committed 5 errors. Pack hitters mustered just 13 hits over the three games with a 12:24 BB:K ratio. Comparatively, State’s opponents registered 27 hits with a 12:23 BB:K ratio, underscoring the inability of the Pack’s lineup to routinely get men on base over the weekend.
Enough about that, though. Richmond (6-1, RPI 66) comes to town Tuesday afternoon for a 3:00pm first pitch. JR RHP Andrew Shaffner will make his first career start for the Pack. The Spiders will send SO RHP Jackson Hinchliffe to the mound in what will likely be a Johnny Wholestaff game. It’ll be Richmond’s fourth game in three days.
