Let’s have a quick look ahead.
Wes Moore has a bit of remodeling to do in the portal this offseason with the graduation of NC State’s decorated senior class, plus Laci Steele’s decision to transfer. Steele’s departure isn’t surprising, as she played sparingly in two seasons here, and she might not be the last player to leave.
But for now, NC State has nine players on the roster, including the incoming freshmen.
Both incoming freshmen are top-70 recruits, but it’s tough to guess at their initial impact. I would think State will look to add at least one guard through the portal, and there is obvious need on the wing and at small forward. Maddie Cox is the only player on the roster who fits the bill there, and she also might opt to move on given the lack of playing time she’s had.
The new college roster limits coming into effect for 2025-26 haven’t changed anything for women’s basketball, which will continue to have a cap of 15, so State can add six more scholarship players if it wants to. (I wouldn’t anticipate that.)
