NC State’s first official depth chart of the season is out.
Everything lines up pretty much as anticipated here, with the Wolfpack’s major portal additions featuring heavily among the first-stringers.
NC State’s return game is going to be exciting, what with the potential for KC Concepcion returning punts, plus Hollywood Smothers and Noah Rogers on kickoffs. I’d put a few bucks on Smothers housing one this season.
Ja’Had Carter gets the nod at nickel to begin the season, though I’m sure we will see plenty of Tamarcus Cooley against the Catamounts. DK Kaufman gets the nod at free safety, while Bishop Fitzgerald will begin the season ahead of KJ Martin on the other side. Brandon Cisse is listed as a co-starter with Corey Coley at corner, which says good things about Coley’s abilities.
Matt McCabe has been shifted to tight end, allowing the Pack to really bring the beef in short-yardage run situations. An inspired idea if I do say so.
State will run out KC, Rogers, Justin Joly, and Dacari Collins at receiver. Freshmen Terrell Anderson, Keenan Jackson, and Jonathan Paylor are listed at reserve spots. So much to like here.
Jordan Waters is RB1, with Smothers and Kendrick Raphael competing for the backup role. Duke Scott had by all accounts a very good camp but is fourth on a depth chart he might well have topped last season.
Ok, I’m ready, let’s ball.
