I have prayed for this day.
A big development for stats nerds such as myself: Bart Torvik added women’s basketball ratings to his site. For those not familiar, Torvik’s ratings system is similar to Ken Pomeroy’s, and it will be used by the men’s tournament selection committee beginning this season.
Wes Moore’s team is No. 7 in the preseason T-Rank, which is encouraging evidence that the hype for the Pack is warranted. The system projects NC State to have a top-15 offense and a top-five defense. South Carolina, Notre Dame, UConn, LSU, UCLA, and Texas are the six teams ahead of the Wolfpack, in that order.
There are five ACC women’s teams in the top 20 and nine in the top 50, so it’s a deep league once again. (The men have two in the top 20 and six in the top 50.)
There’s also a modest archive of women’s seasons that includes the last four years, so you can go back and take a look at how some of Wes Moore’s recent teams stacked up to this one. The 2022 team that got done dirty by the selection committee had the nation’s best offense, for example.
