NC State’s next head women’s soccer coach is Gary Higgins, who has spent the last three seasons running ECU’s program. Higgins led ECU to the first NCAA tournament appearance in school history this fall. In 30 years of school history.
Higgins’ ECU team won at NC State 1-0 to open the 2024 season.
Higgins knows the area well—he played and later coached at Lenoir-Rhyne, becoming the winningest coach in that school’s history. He led that program to a D-II final four, which led to ECU giving him a shot.
My favorite bit is that given all of the above you would never guess that this man is from Scotland, which he is.
It’s so adorable when they say “em” instead of “um.” Anyway, good football hire.
