Red light’s on again.
NC State had itself a good Thursday on the recruiting trail, picking up a pair of commitments, highlighted by long-coveted interior offensive line prospect Isaac Sowells Jr. Sowells picked the Wolfpack over Kentucky and South Carolina.

That’s a nice recruiting win for the Pack, especially beating out Kentucky for a Kentucky kid. Sowells is just outside the top-500 in the 247Sports Composite rankings, making him the second highest-rated player currently in State’s 2025 recruiting class. NC State has been after him since last summer, and he could quickly figure into the mix at center once he gets to campus.
Also, Sowells’ high school clearly plays in a conference with teams that, uh, don’t have what you’d call prototypical size. So some of his highlights are amusing.
NC State also added in the trenches on the other side of the ball, picking up Florida edge rushing prospect Mykah Newton, who picked State over UCF and Michigan State. NC State has more commitments from Florida guys than North Carolina guys, so it’s been a bit of weird cycle in that respect. (And that will change, I’m sure.)
Newton is listed at 6’2 and 255 by 247Sports, but may still have some room to grow, according to their scouting report:
Displays good initial quickness and can win with both speed and power. Shifts his weight well while rounding the corner and is frequently in control of his body. Has experience operating out of both a two and three-point stance and should offer some alignment flexibility at the next level as he’s on the younger side and the body appears to be still maturing. Overall, projects as a potential multi-year contributor at the Power Four level.
Sounds good. Exactly the type of fit on the DL that NC State wants.
NC State’s 2025 class is up to 16 commitments and ranks 48th in the 247 Composite.
