The search for NC State’s next chancellor has concluded, per Pack Pride, and the school is set to name Kevin Howell to the position. Howell is an NC State graduate—and former student-body president—but currently works for the UNC School of Medicine as its Chief External Affairs Officer.
Howell was NC State’s first Black student-body president and will break another barrier by becoming its first Black chancellor.
Prior to joining UNC in 2024, he had worked in administrative roles at NC State since 2006. His familiarity with the university and with outgoing chancellor Randy Woodson no doubt will make the transition easier.
While the chancellor position is first and foremost about academics, it has plenty of potential ramifications for athletics as well. I hope we’ll get to hear him address that whenever he gets introduced officially.
Billy Randy is still the chancellor until June 30, and then it’s Howell’s show. Welcome aboard, sir.
