The Pack falls to 3-3 on the year with their 3rd straight loss
For the first – and hopefully last – time this season, NC State was shutout. Alabama pitchers surrendered just three hits on the day – none of them extra base hits – while allowing a total of eight baserunners on the way to handing the Wolfpack a 4-0 defeat in State’s second game at the 2025 Jax Classic.
Only one Wolfpack hitter reached base safely multiple times: freshman CF Ty Head (1-for-2, HBP). Seven Pack hitters reached base safely in the game, but State really didn’t have many opportunities to push runs across.
The best scoring chances came in the final two innings. State put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs in both the 8th and 9th innings, but were unable to come up with the timely hit. A consistent theme over the weekend.
State did get a solid start from Heath Andrews (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K) and a good relief effort from Cam Wimbish (1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K). Those are encouraging signs, as was a mostly solid defensive effort. Outside of a fly ball miscommunication between Head and Luke Nixon (Nixon was at fault and justifiably charged with the error), the Pack played solid defense on the day, a welcomed improvement from the last couple games. Nixon, Justin DeCriscio, and Matt Heavner all had their share of fantastic plays in the infield, while Drew Lanphere kept a speedy Alabama team at bay on the bases, throwing out one of two attempted base stealers.
The Jax Classic will conclude for NC State on Sunday with a 3:00pm game against Coastal Carolina.
