Welcome back to the ACC, Ja’Had.
NC State put the finishing touches on its secondary on Monday with the commitment of safety Ja’Had Carter. Carter is the third safety to transfer into the program this offseason, joining Kerry Martin (Akron) and Donovan Kaufman (Auburn).

Carter has plenty of familiarity with both NC State and the ACC, as he spent his first three college seasons at Syracuse, where he was an All-ACC honorable mention in 2022. He had 13 tackles against the Wolfpack in 2020, which remains a career best.
Over those three years with the Orange, he collected 138 tackles and picked off five passes. He didn’t see the field much for the Buckeyes last season, perhaps in part because of injuries—one in the spring, and another in mid-October. He ended up playing just 122 snaps.
Carter could give the Pack some extra flexibility in the secondary, as he played in a variety of roles at Syracuse.
