SPOKANE, Wa. (WNCN) — On Friday night, the NC State women’s basketball team will face its toughest competition yet in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
The No. 2 Wolfpack (28-6) and No. 3 LSU Tigers (30-5) are set to play in the Sweet 16 in Spokane, Wa. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The two teams played earlier this season. LSU won that matchup on Nov. 27, defeating NC State 82-65 in the title game of the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship in the Bahamas. Mikaylah Williams led the Tigers with 24 points in that game, while Saniya Rivers scored 21 for the Wolfpack.
NC State’s path to the Sweet 16 included a 75-55 win over No. 15 Vermont in the first round and an 83-49 victory over No. 7 Michigan State in the second round. In that game over the Spartans in Raleigh, star guard Aziaha James led the Wolfpack with 26 points and six rebounds.
LSU routed No. 14 San Diego State 103-48 in the first round and No. 6 FSU 101-71 in the second to earn a spot in Spokane. In their most recent game against the Seminoles, Williams once again led the Tigers with 28 points.
The winner of Friday night’s game moves on to the Elite 8 on Sunday.
