DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Monday night will feature a rivalry game in the Triangle, but the two teams in it are streaking in opposite directions.
No. 2 Duke (17-2 overall, 9-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) and NC State (9-10, 2-6) are set to clash in Durham. Tipoff at Cameron Indoor Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m.
The Blue Devils have won 13 games in a row, with their only two losses all season coming on neutral sites against then-No. 19 Kentucky and then-No. 1 Kansas back in November. Duke’s most recent win, a 63-56 victory at Wake Forest on Saturday, handed the Demon Deacons their first loss at home this season.
Cooper Flagg, the likely choice for ACC Freshman and Player of the Year awards and a candidate for national player of the year recognition, leads Duke with averages of 19.5 points and eight rebounds per game. Fellow freshman Kon Knueppel is averaging the second-most points on the team with 12.8 per game.
NC State, meanwhile, has dropped four consecutive games and has yet to win a game on the road this season. The Wolfpack’s most recent defeat was a 63-57 loss to SMU at home on Saturday afternoon.
Marcus Hill is NC State’s leading scorer so far this season, averaging 13.2 points per game. Jayden Taylor is the only other Wolfpack player averaging double-digits with 12.7 points per contest. NC State’s leading rebounder is Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, with 5.1 boards per game.
This is the first of two rivalry games Duke is hosting this week. On Saturday, the Blue Devils welcome archrival North Carolina to Cameron Indoor Stadium for their first matchup this season.
NC State will also be home for their next game, as the Wolfpack hosts Clemson Saturday afternoon at the Lenovo Center.
