KC Concpecion didn’t waste much time after the conclusion of the regular season to make a decision about his future, as reports broke Sunday evening of his decision to transfer. Many have considered this a foregone conclusion for a while now, and yep, it sure was.
A season of criminal malpractice on Robert Anae’s part likely contributed to some degree, and the mid-season quarterback change probably didn’t help, but Concepcion struggled to get involved in the offense all season. His only 100-yard receiving performance of 2024 came in the opener against Western Carolina.
He averaged only 3.4 receptions and 32 receiving yards per game in league play, both just astoundingly modest numbers after what he accomplished as a freshman. While he still led the team in receptions, he averaged one fewer catch per game than he did in 2023. State’s staff seemed to lack the imagination necessary to get him the ball in ways beyond clearly-telegraphed handoffs or screens, which remains deeply frustrating.
Oh well. I expect KC will bounce back next season, wherever he ends up. Best of luck to him.
