Warren comes to Raleigh after a multi-year stint in Chapel Hill
It seems that the thought of the Military Bowl being a trial run for Freddie Aughty-Lindsay as Defensive Coordinator for NC State was true. Much like the news of Robert Anae’s exit from the program, the news of Augtry-Lindsay’s exit was buried in the announcement of a new coaching hire.
He will replace Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay, who left for another coaching position.
Here is from the man himself:

Without any news on where Aughtry-Lindsay is going being public – or even determined, for that matter – it sure seems like the former Wolfpack linebacker was shown the door… or at least put in a position where leaving was the only viable option.
The “opening” on the coaching staff wasn’t there for long (obviously) as Charlton Warren was announced as the new co-defensive coordinator and safeties/nickels coach.
Welcome to the Pack, Coach Warren!

Warren comes to Raleigh after a three-year stint as defensive backs coach for North Carolina under Mack Brown. He also served as co-DC (2022-2023) and associate head coach (2024) while with the Tar Heels. The run in Chapel Hill was the second of Warren’s career as he previously served two years there – also in the role of DBs coach – under Larry Fedora.
A native of Conley, GA, Warren comes with prior experience at Air Force (his alma mater), Nebraska, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and Indiana. With the exception of his time at Air Force and his two years with Georgia, the other stops listed there have been one-year affairs.
Warren does have prior experience as a DC, serving in the role at Air Force (co-DC from 2008-2013), Indiana (DC in 2021), and North Carolina (co-DC from 2022-2023). Below are the SP+ ranks of the defenses for which he carried some level of coordinator responsibility.
- 2008 (Air Force) – 58th
- 2009 (Air Force) – 25th
- 2010 (Air Force) – 50th
- 2011 (Air Force) – 91st
- 2012 (Air Force) – 102nd
- 2013 (Air Force) – 119th
- 2021 (Indiana) – 73rd
- 2022 (UNC) – 105th
- 2023 (UNC) – 78th
Warren does carry the reputation as a great recruiter. Hopefully that will prove true for his run with the Pack.
