RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — College football season is almost back, which means preseason polls are beginning to come out.
On Monday, the first USA Today Coaches Poll of the 2024 season was released, and only one North Carolina school made the Top 25.
The North Carolina State Wolfpack came in at No. 22 in the rankings. Dave Doeren’s squad ended last season at No. 21 in the same poll and ranked as high as No. 18 during the 2023 campaign.
NC State is one of four Atlantic Coast Conference teams to make the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. Florida State, coming off an undefeated season, was voted the highest at No. 10, followed by Clemson at No. 14 and Miami at No. 19.
According to the poll’s notes, other ACC teams receiving votes were Louisville, Virginia Tech, new-to-the-conference SMU and North Carolina.
The top five teams in the rankings include three Southeastern Conference and two Big Ten schools: Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Alabama, in that order. Defending national champion Michigan was voted No. 8.
