After back-to-back wins over Clemson and Miami, NC State’s starting quarterback MJ Morris has reportedly decided to redshirt.
Per Michael Clark of 247Sports, backup Brennan Armstrong is already taking first-team reps at practice and is expected to be the Wolfpack’s starter the rest of the way.
Morris started four games for State this season, which is the maximum amount allowed to preserve a player’s redshirt year. As it stands the Wolfpack are currently 6-3 with 3-2 record in the ACC.

In his four appearances in 2023, Morris completed 56% percent of his passes for 719 yards and seven touchdowns to five interceptions. Earlier this week, coach Dave Doeren said he was encouraged by the progress Morris had made.
Telling reporters, “He’s very confident. He’s comfortable. He throws a catchable ball. He’s tough. The game continues to slow down for him. …Â It is a game that requires so much. The more you play it, the better you get. He’s 3-1 as a starter. He’s really worked hard. I know he’ll continue to grow and get better.”
Morris was a three-star recruit coming out of Georgia last year. Fellow NC State player Jordan Houston also made a similar decision earlier this season.
