NC State is still recruiting for 2024, but it is also hard at work on the ‘25 class. The Wolfpack added its first ‘25 commitment this weekend in 6’4 shooting guard Ricardo “RJ” Greer, who is from Dayton, Ohio.
Greer actually committed to Kevin Keatts during his visit last weekend but did not make the decision public until today. Part of Keatts’ sales pitch was explaining to Greer how much freedom he gives to his guards in the offense.
“Coach said he’s known for playing freshman and that he’s going to allow me to go out there and compete,” he said. “He didn’t promise me anything but he did say there’s going to be an opportunity to go out there and compete.”
“We talked about guys like DJ Horne and Terquavion Smith,” Greer added. “They were scoring guards they had in the past and he showed me how much they shot the ball and how much he lets his guards go.”
Greer is a three-star prospect in the composite ratings, but is rated a four-star player by 247Sports, and the No. 100 overall player in the 2025 class. Greer holds offers from Dayton, Cincinnati, Florida, Michigan, and Penn State, among others.
His strength is his shooting—as a junior, he shot 40.3% on 144 three-point attempts, and he also shot 90% at the free throw line. He averaged 16.0 points and 2.3 assists in 2024. Can’t have too much shooting, and he’ll have a chance to carve out a role early because of that.
