Alec Makarewicz had distractions to deal with last offseason when he made the decision to leave ECU for NC State, mostly because no one on the ECU side took that development very well. That includes Pirates skipper Cliff Godwin.
Makarewicz spoke about his difficult final meeting with Godwin on the Ovies & Giglio podcast yesterday.
Last July, ECU baseball standout Alec Makarewicz made waves when he transferred to NC State. His final season of eligibility turned out pretty special with a trip to the College World Series.

I’m always interested in how these portal moves actually go down, and in this case, Makarewicz wasn’t pushed to the portal by State or anybody else, he was just keen to try something different after going undrafted.
In the extended conversation, he mentions that he wanted to play in a better conference, no doubt to test himself and hopefully earn more notice from scouts. (He also mentions Kentucky, UCF, Arizona, and Florida as other schools he talked to.) Ultimately the opportunity to do that and also stay close to Greenville helped NC State land him.
