SP+ love for UNC transcends 70-point affairs
The ACC had a good week in SP+, with some teams making sizeable jumps, with the end result being the 3rd overall ranked conference via the metric this week.
If you’re like any rational human being, you’re trying to figure out how UNC didn’t sink like a rock after allowing 70 points in a blowout home loss to James Madison. Well, at least Bill Connelly finally admits what we’ve all said aloud for a while now:
(Somehow North Carolina only slipped by 1.5 points after a blowout loss to James Madison, which was a surprise. I guess SP+ likes Caroline blue.
Yeah, we all knew that already, Bill, but thanks for putting it in writing.
SP+ was also thoroughly impressed with Pitt’s beatdown of Youngstown State, with the Panthers jumping up 19 spots week over week. Good for the Fightin’ Narduzzis. Duke and Virginia also saw significant jumps, but that’s understandable after the Wahoos and Blue Devils handled business on the road.
As for our beloved Wolfpack, well… not a good week. The offense actually improved their rating by 1.0 points, moving up 7 spots in the process. The defense, on the other hand, rightfully dropped with the rating dipping by 3.7 points and the ranking sinking 20 spots.
For what it’s worth, SP+ projects NC State to top 85th ranked NIU by a score of 30-19 this weekend.
