East Carolina’s baseball team provided an update on the health of right-handed ace Trey Yesavage this Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, East Carolina baseball coach Cliff Godwin revealed that Yesavage suffered a collapsed lung. He’ll be able to resume physical activity once he’s released from the hospital.
“Trey is dealing with some chest discomfort. On Friday of last week, he went through his normal protocol of recovery with our training staff. On Saturday, he was having some discomfort in his right chest area. It started getting a little bit worse on Monday,” Godwin said. “So when we got here Monday, we sent him to get an X-ray. He has a partially collapsed lung. Yes, he’s been in the hospital for the past two nights. But he is breathing fine and is in great spirits.”
Before Godwin provided this update, he called out people who were spreading misinformation about the right-hander.
“First off, I’d like everyone to understand that when one of our players get injured, it’s very tricky, because none of us are doctors – at least I’m not – and we need to make sure we’re putting out information that’s accurate, especially when you’re dealing with Trey Yesavage, who is going to go in the first round,” Godwin explained. “You’re talking about a kid’s career. When people put stuff out and they don’t have all the factual information, it’s really not smart, it’s not beneficial to the program, and it’s not beneficial to Trey Yesavage.”
Yesavage was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, and rightfully so. He has an 11-1 record with a 2.09 ERA and 139 strikeouts.
As of right now, it’s unlikely that Yesavage pitches for the Pirates in the AAC Tournament.
