RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A trio of women’s basketball teams out of the Triangle made some moves in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll on Monday, including two that fell some spots in the new rankings.
The North Carolina Tar Heels dropped two spots to No. 16 after losing 69-58 to second-ranked UConn in their first-ranked matchup of the early season. Longtime Huskies coach Geno Auriemma tied the record for the most career victories in NCAA history, which includes men’s and women’s basketball.
Meanwhile, North Carolina State fell in a 76-73 road defeat to unranked TCU on Sunday, which resulted in the Wolfpack dropping seven spots to No. 20.
On the other hand, Duke took care of business this past week, winning consecutive games over Dayton and South Dakota State.
UNC is set to travel to the Caribbean to open the 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis against Ball State on Saturday. Both N.C. State and Duke only have one game scheduled this upcoming week. The Wolfpack host Coastal Carolina on Thursday, while the Blue Devils welcome Belmont to Cameron Indoor Stadium on the same night.
