NORMAN, Okla. (WNCN) — Duke baseball staved off elimination Saturday afternoon after defeating Oral Roberts 6-2.
Now, the No. 2 Blue Devils (40-19) will battle against the Norman Regional’s host and top seed Oklahoma (38-20) after the Sooners lost to UConn 4-1 on Saturday night in another win-or-go-home game. First pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park was initially set for 3 p.m. ET but was delayed two hours due to weather.
After scoring just one run in their opening game Friday, Duke’s bats woke up a little on Saturday afternoon. Devin Obee hit his 16th home run of the year as part of a two-hit, two-RBI night, and grad transfer Jimmy Evans hit a two-run homer for his first in a Duke uniform.
The Sooners, meanwhile, lost to the Huskies Saturday despite 10 strikeouts from starting pitcher Braden Davis. Oklahoma’s lone run came on a solo homer from Kendall Pettis in the eighth inning.
The losing team will see their season come to an end. The winner of this game will have a rematch later tonight against UConn. If they beat the Huskies, the teams will face off once again on Monday to determine the winner of the Norman regional.
