DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — After last week’s win over Florida State, the Duke football team became bowl eligible just a little over halfway into the season. They’ll face a challenge in a ranked opponent Saturday night.
The Blue Devils (6-1 overall, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) host SMU (6-1, 3-0) in Durham Saturday night. Kick off at Wallace Wade Stadium is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The Mustangs have yet to lose a conference game in their first season in the ACC. Last week, they went out west and won 40-10 at fellow ACC newcomer Stanford. Their other two conference wins are over Florida State on Sept. 28 and then-No. 22 Louisville on Oct. 5.
Duke only needed seven games to secure a bowl game in head coach Manny Diaz’ first season in Durham. Their only loss so far this season was to Georgia Tech on Oct. 5.
Next week, the Blue Devils travel to Miami to face the currently undefeated Hurricanes. They then return to the Triangle for a matchup against NC State in Raleigh on Nov. 9.
