CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) — After a comeback victory Saturday against Miami, the Duke Blue Devils have a chance to win the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference baseball championship.
No. 6 Duke (37-18, 16-14) and No. 5 Florida State (42-14, 17-12) will battle to win the conference title Sunday afternoon at Truist Field in Charlotte. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
Win or lose, the Seminoles — who have 2024 ACC Player of the Year James Tibbs III in their linenup — will host games in the NCAA tournament regional round. Duke, however, is currently considered just outside the nation’s top 16 teams and will likely have to win the ACC tournament to get the chance to host games in Durham next weekend.
Duke has a losing record in the all-time series against Florida State, winning 18 games and dropping 56. But in their last matchup in April, the Blue Devils won by run rule, 16-4, at Jack Coombs Field.
This is the second time the Blue Devils are playing for an ACC championship in baseball. They won the 2021 tournament, which was also held in Charlotte. The Seminoles have eight ACC titles in baseball, last winning in 2018 in Durham.
