DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Duke forward Kyle Filipowski announced he’s entering his name in the 2024 NBA Draft on Friday.
He made the announcement through social media, which included a lengthy statement that thanked the school and its fans.
“After careful consideration and consultation with the people closest to me, I have decided to declare for the NBA Draft,” Filipowski said in the released statement. “This has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue it.”
“Thank you, Duke Nation,” he added. “Your unwavering encouragement and belief in me have fueled my determination to reach this point. Whether you’ve cheered for me from the stands, followed my career online, or simply sent positive vibes my way, please know that your support has meant the world to me.”
The 7-foot big man earned second-team All-American honors this year, leading the Blue Devils with 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50.6% from the floor and 34.8% from behind the arc. He started in all 72 games over the past two seasons, and played a vital role in leading Duke to the Elite Eight before losing to North Carolina State in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Filipowski also made an emphasis to express his gratitude towards his teammates and coaches.
“I also want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my coaches, teammates, and everyone else who has helped me along the way,” he said in the statement. “Your guidance, mentorship, and sacrifices have played the ultimate role in shaping me both as a player and as a person. While I may no longer call Durham home, know that I will always carry this community with me.”
“To Cameron. To the Crazies. To my coaches. To the Brotherhood. I hope to make you all proud.”
The Westtown, N.Y. native is projected to be a mid-first round selection in the upcoming NBA Draft.
