Before former Duke star Kyle Filipowski got drafted by the Utah Jazz this week, his family fired off concerning social media posts about his relationship with his girlfriend, Caitlin Hutchison.
Filipowski’s brother and mother suggested that Hutchison “brainwashed” him from a young age. The former five-star recruit allegedly cut off his family after he started dating her. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony talked about it on a recent podcast episode.
“NBA teams are talking about the fact that they had question marks about his girlfriend being so much older than him, why was he estranged from his family because of this whole situation,” Givony said, via 247Sports. “He apparently doesn’t talk to his parents or his brother and it’s a very, very odd situation. I personally don’t understand why it would cause him to drop like this into the second round.”
On Saturday afternoon, Daniel Filipowski provided some details regarding Kyle’s romance with Hutchinson. He claims this relationship started in 2019.

“My brother is a victim and was unfortunately a ‘perfect’ pawn and target for this girl’s lifelong scheme based on his human characteristics and growing potential as a high-level prospect which started taking place in 2019, exactly at the time when she began her pursuit of him,” Daniel Filipowski wrote.
“Kyle…myself, your entire family and friends love you and are here for you! I have received so much outreach and support from families that have a child who has fallen victim to this same terrible and evil progression of psychological control and manipulation and my heart goes out to all the families out there who have suffered through this experience in the past or are currently going through this right now! You all are NOT ALONE.”
Filipowski turns 21 this November. Hutchison, meanwhile, is reportedly 26 years old.
Eventually, Filipowski will have to address all these rumors surrounding his relationship
Filipowski averaged 15.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game during his Duke career. Only time will tell if he can be an impact player for the Jazz.
Of course, NBA fans aren’t really worried about Filipowski’s playing career at the moment. They’re primarily concerned about his bizarre relationship.
