CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) — The Atlantic Coast Conference baseball regular season is over, and now teams are gearing up to play in the championship tournament at Truist Field in uptown Charlotte.
North Carolina (41-12 overall, 22-8 ACC) locked up the top seed after a stellar year in which the Tar Heels only lost 2 games at home. The winners of the Coastal Division will be playing in Pool A with No. 8 Wake Forest and No. 12 Pitt. The Diamond Heels also go into the tournament as a top team nationally, currently No. 3 in Baseball America’s Top 25 rankings.
The North Carolina State Wolfpack (32-19, 18-11) earned a No. 3 ranking in this postseason tournament after placing second in the Atlantic Division behind Clemson. The Pack will be playing in Pool C, where they’ll be joined by No. 6 Duke and No. 10 Virginia Tech. Baseball America also has NC State as a top 10 team, with the Wolfpack coming in at No. 7 in the latest rankings.
The Blue Devils (35-18, 16-14) received the No. 6 seed after finishing third in the Coastal Division. They’ll be the first of the Triangle teams to play in the championships tournament, as they’re scheduled to square off against Virginia Tech on Tuesday night.
