DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Last season, the Duke women’s basketball team finished seventh in the final Atlantic Coast Conference standings — exactly where they were picked to finish in in the preseason poll. But they exceeded expectations by advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight. Can they do so again this year?
On Tuesday night, the newly-expanded ACC released the full slate of conference schedules for all the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The Blue Devils open ACC play on Dec. 8 at home against Virginia Tech. Despite not having to make the trip out to the conference’s new teams on the west coast, Duke has a travel-heavy schedule, with trips to Boston College, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Florida State and the final ACC newcomer, SMU. They’ll also make the drive to Winston-Salem to face Wake Forest.
Duke is also set to go down Tobacco Road on Jan. 9 to face North Carolina and will head to Raleigh on Feb. 3 to face NC State for the first time since the Wolfpack knocked the Blue Devils out in the quarterfinal round of last season’s ACC Tournament. Duke will also host UNC on Feb. 27, but does not have a regular-season home game against NC State on this year’s schedule.
In non-conference play, the Blue Devils’ slate includes two games in the 2024 Ball Dawgs Classic in Henderson, NV the week of Thanksgiving as well as trips to Liberty, Maryland, South Dakota State and South Florida. Duke arguably has the toughest matchup in this year’s SEC/ACC Challenge, as they’re headed to Columbia to face national defending champions South Carolina on Dec. 5.
